Canary Wharf - A Leading Financial Centre

Canary Wharf - Location and Traffic

Canary Wharf is an emerging financial city of London, located in the second district of East London, and one of the world-renowned financial centres. Canary Wharf extends eastward with a city airport, across the Thames River in the south is Greenwich, and in the west it connects Surrey Quay and Canada Water.

The office area is one of the characteristics of Canary Wharf. There are about 105,000 employees working in Canary Wharf. The office buildings and retail stores cover an area of about 14,000,000 square feet. Because it is close to the office area, most surrounding bars and shops are open until late at night and open from Monday to Sunday, and the corresponding supporting facilities were basically completed in 2015 last year.

Canary Wharf has convenient transportation, with Canary Wharf subway station and Canary Wharf DLR station. There is Jubilee Line at Canary Wharf Station, which goes directly to London Bridge, Waterloo Green Park and other traffic arteries in the city centre. The DLR can go directly to London City Airport, Stratford in the north and Greenwich, Lewisham in the south.

The zip code of the area is E14, which extends south from Canary Wharf to the Isle of Dogs (commonly known as "Dog Island"). This area is currently one of the most popular residential areas for Chinese investment.

Canary Wharf - Life and Recreation

In the four shopping centres in Canary Wharf, there are more than 300 stores, restaurants, coffee bars, and a lot of brands to choose from, not only luxury Aquascutum, Tiffany, Mont Blanc and Aspinal, but also affordable brands, such as Zara and Topshop. Among them, the large Waitrose flagship store is also located in the mall. This two-storey Waitrose also provides furniture and some fashion items.

Take the Waitrose elevator to the second floor. In winter, there is a wonderful ice skating rink at the exit. You can invite friends to experience the speed and passion of winter. The skating rink at night is more beautiful, the surrounding buildings are brightly lit, and the skating rink is embedded in it.
Not only that, but many good restaurants and bars can also be found in Canary Wharf, including Carluccio’s, Slug & Lettuce, Pizza Express and Byron. Gordon Ramsay’s gastropub, The Narrow, is also nearby.

Big Easy is on the DLR line, five minutes away from the subway station. It looks like a train and a DJ booth. It is an American restaurant that offers good lobster set meals and steaks, and the indoor dining environment is also very ok. Of course, there are also their stores in the city centre.
If you want to enjoy the stunning city view, you can choose to come to Plateau. The indoor environment is beautiful, order a classic French meal with the recommended wine, and the special candles on the table make the atmosphere more unique and romantic (as shown in the picture below) . It has a good reputation on Yelp.

As for Bar Grill, there are more casual dishes combined with a relaxed and casual atmosphere, allowing you to relax and enjoy with friends after get off work. Walking around One Canada Square, you can also find unexpected surprises.
For seafood lovers, a treasure that has to be mentioned is Billingsgate Market in Canary Wharf, which is our seafood market/fish market and the largest inland seafood wholesale market in the UK (Trafalgar Way, postcode E145ST). The business hours are from 4:00 to 8:00 every morning, but closed on Mondays and Sundays. Although it looks like an unfinished construction site from the outside, but! Walking into this unassuming door is a seafood paradise!

The market covers 13 acres and on average about 25,000 metric tons of seafood are sold here each year. The trading centre on the first floor has 98 booths and 30 stores. Of course, it is generally sold in boxes, but small quantities are also accepted. The food is fresh and the price is favourable, friends who like seafood must not miss it. I wish you all a happy seafood feast!

Once you've dealt with your satiety, it's time for some shopping and art viewing. You can easily find places like this in Canary Wharf. On the east side of Canary Wharf is Canada Square Park, surrounded by trees and flower beds; on the south side of Canada Square Park, there is a Jubilee Gardens near the subway station, with pools, green spaces, and flower beds on both sides of the winding walkway. On the west side, you will come to Cabot Square, where there is a prototype fountain, and you can enjoy the riverside landscape along the Thames River.

If you're willing to walk fifteen minutes, you'll come to the 32-acre Mudchute Park, where you can get up close and personal with the animals, as well as horseback riding lessons from Monday to Friday (weekend lessons are currently owned by the club). Continuing to go south, you will pass a small Island Gardens, from where you can run along the river bank, or you can go to Greenwich Park (Greenwich) through the boardwalk.
In addition, Canary Wharf Arts Centre (hosting an average of 100 art events per year), Docklands Museum (The Museum of London Docklands), and Cineworld Cinemas in West India Quay.
